Apple Pan. So 2024 has been a year where I wanted to try more burger places. Being an hour away from LA, it's very hard to justify getting burgers after a long drive, most of the time I'd rather just go get a "nicer" type of food. The opportunity to try Apple Pan finally came yesterday as my friend that I was with only likes burgers. We dined in, and it was not too crowded, it felt very comfortable. The workers were very sweet and parking wasn't hard either. I got the Hickory and my friend got the Steakburger. You have the option of getting the burger with grilled or raw onions but I opted for both. The burger was a lot better than I expected. I thought this place was held together by nostalgia and that alone. However the quality of the food is great. The fries were fresh and the pie was also delicious. I'd definitely recommend going here for the one time.
I saw this place on channel 5 KTLA. Sam Rubin favorite place and had to check it out myself. Food was very delicious and and the ambiance was very nice. Sam Rubin may you RIP.
I love The Apple Pan and today was a gorgeous day to be there! Delicious food as always and fantastic folks work there! Shout out to MAYRA. She keeps this place running smoothly and is so lovely with her wonderful disposition and smile! I had my tuna salad in a wrap and perfectly done so I could enjoy each bite! My wonderful pal Ann had a steak burger with fries...( I had a few :), of course! No pie today bc we are both eschewing sweet treats... however, they have the best pies in town IMHO! Easy parking and now you have the option to sit at the counter and outside! An icon for a million reasons!
May 28, 2024 Happy International Burger Day! Both the customer service at The Apple Pan & delicious Impossible Burger won my heart today! The burger was juicy, each bite was tasty & our server Nayeli was attentive!! Impossible Burger HickoryBurger Style: Flavorful! The impossible burger is not on the menu, so you simply have to ask for it! I added cheese! Yum! That burger was gone quicker than I imagined! Haha! After each bite, I craved another! Haha! I was like, do I need a 2nd burger...but, no! I was happily satisfied & only thought about a second burger, because it was so delicious, the flavor of it all! Yum!! Banana Cream Pie | Shared: Impressed! Light, fluffy & bananas! In fact, so good that it ties with my absolutely favorite place to get Banana Cream Pie! Iced Tea & French Fries: Refreshing, and the fries(shared) were simple; went well with the burger! Seating: Luckily there were 2 more seats at the counter for my friend & I! There also plenty of seating outside at the back patio! Customer Service: Top of the line! Our server Nayeli was incredible! Personality plus & highly attentive! Though the place was packed, she stopped by to check on my friend & I constantly! She even poured our ketchup on one plate but separately! Thanks again for excellent customer service!! Overall: Yes, please! I'll be back! Love the Impossible Burger!
Cute local spot with history! My friend who grew up in LA took me here because it's nostalgic for her and rightfully so. It is an old fashioned diner vibe with only counter seating. Not great for big groups but they have really good burgers, fries, and of course pies! They even have a walk up window on the outside where you can order and pickup fresh pies. The service is very quick and I'm happy to know a place like this exists in LA.
The apple pan is an institution in West LA. The trek to get here is treacherous if you dont live nearby. Nestled in West LA/BH, the spot is overflowing with regular customers and tourists / foodies alike. They turned their parking lot into an outdoor eating area, so there's literally no parking anywhere around. it is best to go a block up and park in the paid city parking. Don't park in the residential street with permit unless marked. also beware parking in other businesses because they will tow your car. I came in on an off hour around 2 PM , so the crowds slow down a bit, but the eat in counter was still full. There is also a window where you can get food and eat in the back. First off maybe it was busy, but the customer service is horrendous . The man at the counter told me to just order for the window. Lol. I got served by a lady and was asking her for stuff and she told me to be patient. WHAT? Lol . She asked me if it was my first time here and I said yes. then all the stuff I asked for she didn't bring and then the man next to me also was peeved because there were things that he wanted and she wasn't bringing them either. The cooks were back there chefing it up and i must say they did a great job. Most things they got out in about 10 to 15 minutes they were getting out things so fast that the waiters were behind. Overall, the food was pretty good. The burgers were pretty thick. they use a special sauce. I guess next time I will try the hickory burger, but I had the steak burger. Also, beware the fries have zero seasoning, but they were very crisp for being some thick fries. They serve sodas in cans here with cups and ice upon request. I did not get the pie because I was so full but I will try at the next time.
Absolute classic. Delicious burgers, delicious fries, pie was tasty and overall it was great. Servers were also extremely friendly. No reservations, no tables, just a big U-shape bar to hop into. I'll be back!
After weeks of being on the road and eating various ethnic cuisines, I "complained" to my husband about his ability or preference to eat Asian food 24/7. My brother-in-law chirped in to offer me a "slice of Americana" at one of LA's oldest-running restaurants, The Apple Pan, whose motto is "Quality Forever." He furthered his description by mentioning The Apple Pan's retro or late '40s diner no-frills-style hamburgers, cheeseburgers, fries, freshly made in-house pies served à la mode and quick and no-nonsense service. At this point, I started drooling and agreed to a quick 25-minute drive to this restaurant and arrived near its 11 AM opening. This quaint and homey restaurant with its U-shaped counter surrounded by 26 counter seats has its food preparation center at its heart behind the red brick. There is a Seating Etiquette signposted as this place is on a first-come-first-served basis and does not accept reservations. According to my brother-in-law, this restaurant only recently started to accept credit and debit cards for food instead of just cash. We cozied up to a corner at the front of the counter, where we got a birds-eye view of the food prep. Our server, Hector, immediately delivered menus and gave us a few minutes to decide. Meanwhile, at the time, four other customers were already seated ahead of us, so he left us to wait on them but returned quickly. We made up our minds rapidly since the menu comprises its classic seven sandwich choices, multiple hot and cold beverages, and selections of freshly baked pies or cream pies. FOOD: - Steakburger - Original 1927: FYI, you don't have a choice of doneness to your hamburger, but trust that it'll be cooked medium with charring for added texture. We requested a slice of Tillamook Cheddar for an additional $1. The steakburger comprised multi-layers of iceberg lettuce, onion, pickles, and a smear of thick in-house dressing between a lightly toasted bun. The burger was fresh-tasting and beefy and, in my opinion, didn't need additional seasoning or frou-frou condiments. We liked that the burgers were wrapped in paper sleeves, which minimizes the use of dishes and catches the juiciness of the burger and its condiments without dribbling down your hand or arm. $10.25 - French Fries: My brother-in-law recommended we ask for CRISP fries, as these French fries were not the standard cut thickness. The fries were about the thickness of crinkle-cut fries, and maybe almost the thickness of steak fries, and the crisp doneness enhanced the flavor and texture. The serving of fries comes in only one size and is quite generously portioned. $5.00 We look forward to returning during the warmer months to enjoy their outdoor picnic table-style dining area and straightforward menu. Also, we'd love to get a slice or two of their famous apple pie served à la mode or chocolate cream pie. The Apple Pan restaurant is like a time machine where you can experience simple and tasty post-WWII diner food.
